You are invited to join the vibrant, supportive team of Professor Roslyn Bill at Aston University as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. You will also work with Dr Mootaz Salman at the University of Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position with a proposed start date of 1st February 2023 for 12 months that will be based primarily in Oxford. The focus of your work will be to build a controlled microenvironment in the form of a gliovascular interface on a chip in order to make detailed measurements of glymphatic regulation.
The project will be funded by Professor Bill and Dr Salman’s BBSRC Pioneer Award. You will investigate how the subcellular relocalization of the water channel aquaporin 4, dynamically regulates glymphatic clearance. When glymphatic clearance is impaired, toxic waste products can accumulate within brain tissue leading to conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
You will have completed a PhD in bioengineering, cell biology, biochemistry, bioscience, molecular biology or a related field. You will also have practical experience of working with microfluidic chips, mammalian cell culture and imaging techniques, and knowledge of cellular models of neurodegenerative disease and 3D cultures.
