Job Description
The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is the national institute which prepares expert reports and opinions on questions of food, feed and chemical safety and consumer health protection in Germany on the basis of internationally recognised scientific assessment criteria. It advises the Federal Government and other institutions and interest groups in these areas. The BfR conducts its own research on topics that are closely linked to its assessment tasks. It is an institution with legal capacity within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
The following permanent position is now available at the “German Centre for the Protection of Laboratory Animals” in the BfR’s Department Experimental Toxicology and ZEBET:
Scientific Officer for the Research and Development of Alternative Methods to Animal Experiments (F/M/X)
Part-time employment is possible.
Tasks:
The Bf3R develops and promotes alternative methods to animal experiments (e.g. cell and tissue culture models) and supports their recognition at international level. In its own animal experiments, the Bf3R researches methods to minimise the pain or suffering of test animals.
The individual tasks include:
- Independent research and development work on/of alternative methods to animal experiments
- Advising the relevant authorities on alternatives to animal experiments
- Independent acquisition of third-party funding
- Independent preparation, writing and presentation of scientific information (e.g. scientific opinions, presentations and publications)
Your profile:
- University degree (master’s, diploma or equivalent university degree) in biology, biochemistry, human medicine, molecular medicine or a similar subject
- Proven practical experience in implementing and establishing microphysiological systems, organoids or cell culture models, for example, using iPSCs
- Proven experience in the publication of scientific articles in recognised international peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in the acquiring third-party funding
- Very good knowledge of spoken and written German and English
- Good computer skills, a conscientious way of working, flexibility, the ability to work in a team, resilience, and the willingness to travel on business are required
Desired:
- Doctorate
- Proven experience with high-resolution microscopy (e.g. confocal microscopy)
- Project management experience
