What we want
The Web Solutions Architect will play a crucial role in web centralization and standardization at Texas A&M. This role will be responsible for analyzing requirements, crafting technical solutions, and ensuring the successful implementation of web projects. They will meet with units who have web-related needs to understand business requirements, then work with professionals in web development, design, technology and marketing to find appropriate solutions. They will coordinate across teams to implement, assist with organizational change management and then develop ongoing operational support, user support and training for these web systems. They will work to find opportunities for standardizing on common platforms, identify platforms for common business needs, help select the best solution for broad use across the university, then lead implementation and migration to new platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of web technologies, and architecture principles. They must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Eight years of experience in web development/programming, developing complex websites or web applications
  • Experience in consulting, planning, and developing solutions for complex technology problems

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience as a web developer including a strong understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Ability to program in a modern web development language
  • Strong communication, coordination and planning ability and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in web accessibility
  • Ability to program in PHP, JavaScript or other modern web development languages
  • Management or leadership experience, especially in a web, technology or marketing role
  • Experience as a solutions architect, product manager or project manager
  • Strong leadership ability and experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience planning, developing and implementing enterprise web sites, web applications and supporting products and services
  • Experience and deep technical knowledge in development and administration for systems similar to those used at Texas A&M including Cascade, WordPress and/or Kentico, and Siteimprove
  • Knowledge and experience in enterprise tools for web search, database tools or related products
  • Ability to program in the Velocity scripting language

Responsibilities:

  • Develops solutions for website needs – Meets with stakeholders to gather requirements, works with stakeholders and leadership to choose a solution, leads development and/or coordinates across teams to implement. Works with stakeholders and the web team to make sure websites and supporting systems align with both the strategy and needs of the unit and the university. Finds interim solutions for groups that need custom website functionality and supporting systems while long-term solutions are developed for the university.
  • Supports University web centralization and standardization – Finds opportunities for standardizing on common platforms. Identifies platforms for common business needs such as website search, web forms, no-code web hosting, and authenticated access for files and web pages. Helps select the best solution for broad use across the university, coordinates implementation and migration to new platforms. Helps units migrate from separate systems to enterprise platforms provided by the university. Manages and coordinates with vendors providing web services supporting web centralization.
  • Develops training resources, provides training and coaching – Trains users and web staff in content management systems, and other systems that support university websites. Promotes best practices for web content, design, usability accessibility, development and related disciplines. Coaches others to implement and maintain best practices.
  • Departmental Support – Supports embedded web communications staff who support web content in the embedded MarComm teams. Performs other related duties as assigned.
