Salary from £50,606 to £58,505 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £65,157 pa inclusive of London allowance and the salary scale can be found on the LSE website.

This is a fixed term appointment until 1st September 2025

The two-year proposed research project funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York aims to investigate the idea of non-nuclear deterrence. The project will cover: the history and current debates about non-nuclear deterrence; the idea of defensive, comprehensive or in-depth defence and what this means for manpower, equipment, and new technologies; the economic and political aspects of non-nuclear deterrence; and the implications for nuclear arms control and disarmament. The project will be guided by a core group of scholars and practitioners, who will be responsible for commissioning research to supplement what is done in-house, and will produce a final report on the topic that can be disseminated widely.

The post-holder will undertake research as part of the academic team on the Investigating Non-Nuclear Deterrence Project, and will support the principal investigator in organising the research, convening the core group and contributing to the drafting of the final report.

Candidates should have a PhD in political science, international relations or a related field in the humanities and social sciences. Candidates should also have research interests in weapons of mass destruction, security and defence, and arms control and disarmament with a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary work.
