We are looking for a tax and compliance expert to manage and facilitate the accurate preparation and filing of our company’s local, state and federal and international tax returns/forms as well as help maintain compliance in all relevant jurisdictions. The ideal candidate is a team player who manages the tax function to greater performance, creates and implements tax plans and works with the accounting and leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk. The Tax & Compliance Manager will ensure compliance with state, federal, and international income tax and indirect tax regulations through systems and processes that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. Working with outside tax consultants, they will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulations and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. The ideal candidate is single minded in their pursuit of ensuring compliance and achieves this goal through optimizing reporting procedures and driving the successful function of the tax team.

AS A TAX & COMPLIANCE MANAGER, YOU WILL:

  • Working directly with 3rd party tax consultants, facilitate and manage the preparation and review of company federal, state, local, and international income tax returns and forms.

  • Ensure accurate, timely filing of all other tax returns and other business related filings.

  • Oversee and implement both current and potential new indirect tax filings, including state and local sales/use tax filings and international GST/VAT tax filings.

  • Prepare the company’s annual income tax provision and footnotes in compliance with ASC 740 US GAAP accounting standards.

  • Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.

  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.

  • Plan for and develop an overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with the tax team and consultants.

  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.

  • Manage and facilitate IRS and state income tax audits and tax correspondence: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.

  • Provide support with various special tax related projects.

  • Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections, including regular updates of cash tax payment projections.

  • Manage and mentor member of the tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement.

  • Provide tax planning support in any future M&A activity.

  • Overseeing company corporate governance and working directly with 3rd party consultants to assure compliance.

OFFICE INFORMATION:

Leap Event Technology is a 100% remote-friendly company. However, we do offer the option of working in the office for employees located in Montréal (CAN), Pittsburgh (U.S.), Dallas (U.S.), Sydney (AUS). All of our offices are stocked with snacks and drinks and we provide a free lunch every week. We offer a monthly travel stipend, and even host the occasional themed party and happy hour!

 

If you don’t live near an office but happen to be visiting nearby, you can work from the office for as long as you need.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Leap Event Technology requires all Event Operations employees and contractors who will be representing the company at a client event to be fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to attending. Exemptions are determined by the event organizer. Employees are not required to be fully vaccinated to be present at an office facility.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Extensive corporate tax knowledge

  • Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.

  • Familiarity with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements.

  • Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.

  • Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members.

  • Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • We are looking for a candidate with 3-5 years of experience in a tax manager or public accountant role with at least 2 years of experience in a management role. Preferred candidates have a current CPA license and a master’s degree in an accounting discipline. The Tax Manager must be proficient with the following software/tools:
