Position Overview:

Zenni is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager to join its Tax Department and support international

expansion plans along with managing all US indirect tax needs. You will contribute to the

management, oversight, and evolution of the company’s indirect tax function. This role

encompasses sales/use and GST/VAT tax compliance, risk management, audit and strategy,

tax engine management. To be successful in the role you will need a proven track record of both technical and strategic competence, outstanding project management skills, and exceptional communication and collaboration skills. This candidate will partner with members of accounting and other finance functions, as well as a broad range of cross-functional business teams to surface tax issues, solve problems, and recommend solutions while performing key responsibilities.

What we want you to own in this role:

  • Assist with the preparation of data collection for monthly, quarterly, and annual

sales/use tax compliance for all the company’s revenue streams.

  • Assist with periodic VAT/GST filing for foreign countries through Avalara VAT or another applicable system.
  • Prepare and file periodic statutory reports for multiple entities and authorities, including but not limited to Use Tax, CAT, VAT/GST, 571-L.
  • Maintain concurrent, audit-ready workpapers and financial records for all filings.
  • Assist with tax payment preparation and related processes, and collaborate with teammates internally.
  • Manage new and existing registrations, domestically and globally.
  • Primary point of contact for tax inquiries by authorities for various matters.
  • Primary point of contact for sales tax business partnering.
  • Perform taxability analysis for new launch products and features as needed.
  • Support projects go-live and collaborate with other functional teams for system configuration and testing.
  • Assist with tax system implementations and automation with other business systems to drive efficiency.
  • Work with other Tax and Technology teams across regions to identify, create, and implement globally scalable processes and solutions.
  • Experience in Tax Controversy, and research indirect tax issues – working on audits with taxing authorities and outside advisers while exercising a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Assist in the maintenance of transaction tax and tax return software including Avalara, exemption certificates, assessment of new products and services, and updates to system and tax rates.
  • Review legal contracts for sales/use and indirect tax language.
  • Research and keep abreast of new tax developments that will have a potential impact on the company and its affiliates.
  • Other tasks and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BS or other higher degree in Taxation
  • 7+ years of tax experience in a multi-faceted indirect tax environment (both domestic and global)
  • State and local tax experience in a public accounting firm, Government, and/or US multinational company with a focus in sales/use taxes preferred.
  • Experience in global, indirect tax transactions (VAT/GST) is a plus.
  • Relevant industry experience handling indirect tax in retail, technology, and e-commerce companies required.
  • Ability to communicate complex tax concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with sales and use tax software (ex. Avalara).
  • Advanced Excel skills are required.

As of 08/15/2023, the expected compensation range for this position is $130,000 to $160,000 USD. Actual pay within this range will be based upon several factors, including without limitation education, work experience, certifications, geographic pay differentials, market conditions, and other business and organizational needs. The Company anticipates that the reasonably expected salary for this position could change in the future and, therefore, the Company retains the right to change, modify, or revisit the salary range for the position for various reasons, including the Company’s business needs.
