Job Description


The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) is looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to join our team. The LMS is a world-class research laboratory where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. Funded by the MRC as part of UK Research and Innovation, the LMS has a collaborative working culture and new state-of-the-art building based in the heart of West London in the Hammersmith Hospital Campus. Our proximity to the growing life sciences hub and new innovation district in White City provides unique opportunities for clinical, academic and industrial collaborations.

The ideal candidate will have experience within the UK research landscape, either in higher education or publicly funded research. It is an exciting time to join LMS as we have recently moved into our new state of the art building. This onsite role will cover laboratory and general workplace safety matters. More specifically, you will have responsibility for:

  • Providing Health & Safety advice to key stakeholders on a wide range of topics
  • Acting as a generalist Health & Safety advisor as part of the wider H&S team
  • Conducting and leading (in collaboration with others) safety inspections, audits and evaluation of working practices
  • Providing safety inductions for new starters
  • Preparing guidance and training materials
  • Maintaining accurate records of safety relevant information e.g., accident/incident reports, training records, risk assessments, radioactivity monitoring, etc
  • Assessing compliance with local laboratory fire safety rules
