About the opportunity

The University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Architecture who is an expert on architecture and housing, whose role will be to:

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Teach housing design and related topics including housing affordability, aspects of the housing crisis worldwide, housing policy in Australia and abroad, and the history of housing, in the Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Bachelor of Architecture and Environments, and Master of Architecture degree programs. Teaching responsibilities will include the coordination and delivery in whole or part of selected core and elective units
  • Develop an internationally recognised research program (including seeking funding, publishing in high quality international outlets, and supervising high-quality PhD candidates) in housing design, housing affordability, housing history, housing policy, or other areas related to the worldwide housing crisis
  • The governance of the School and University.

About you

  • A completed PhD in the field of Architecture and Housing Design, Housing Affordability, the History of Housing, or Housing Policy with formal training in Architectural Design,
  • A demonstrated track record of successful lecturing, coordination, and curriculum development in architectural design, as well as history and/or theory in undergraduate or postgraduate architecture programs
  • A developing high-quality research program in affordable housing, housing design, housing policy, or related fields of housing study
  • Evidence of your research excellence pertinent to your field and career stage, including, where appropriate, peer-reviewed research, internationally/nationally significant published and/or exhibited design work and scholarship, design awards, research grants, strong industry collaboration, and/or experience in a leading professional practice
  • A capacity to provide mentorship and supervision to higher degree research candidates and research personnel
  • A collegial approach and willingness to contribute to academic governance, engagement, and administration
  • The capacity to teach and research in cross-disciplinary contexts, especially with colleagues in Urban Design, Planning, and Policy
  • Evidence of experience working in a cross- and inter-disciplinary manner at the university level.
