Background

Research and Enterprise at City supports academic staff in all areas when applying for externally funded research and enterprise activities. In a typical year, the Research and Enterprise Office handles 400 research funding proposals, 300 research related contracts (live and new ones),and sets up new awards valued at £17M. You will be one of the Contract Managers working with colleagues in the Research Support Servies team and the Academic Enterprise team to guide the contractual side of new and existing awards.

Responsibilities

You will provide in-house expertise for variously drafting, reviewing, and advising on contractual provisions and facilitating negotiations.

You will provide robust legal advice and training to colleagues in Research and Enterprise and academic staff across the university in pursuance of externally funded research and/or enterprise activities. You will work with other professionals across the university on issue related to research agreements, for example to ensure compliance with GDPR legislation.

Person Specification

You will have experience in contract preparation and negotiation for sponsored research funded by government, charities and industry. You will have a thorough understanding of the research agenda in UK universities. Ideally you will have a degree in law. You will be proactive, analytical and pragmatic in your approach. You will have excellent communication skills and engaging interpersonal skills to build up and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues within and beyond the university.

Subject to agreement, relevant Professional Services roles may be undertaken in a hybrid way. This involves a combination of working on campus and at home each week.
