We are looking for a creative problem-solver in the role of Global Compensation Lead to support the advancement of our compensation programs. You will be a key contributor to the continued development and evolution of BetterUp’s compensation function. Acting in a consultative capacity, you will provide guidance and advice primarily to HRBPs and Recruiters, as well as managers as needed, on compensation related matters. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and administering compensation policies and programs in cooperation with other members of the compensation team and human resource management on a global basis.  

You will conduct market research and analysis to inform compensation decisions, addressing client requests and inquiries (i.e., identifying requirements, expectations, and business or organizational needs etc.), and partner with HR Business partners to provide consulting services to develop programs that tie to the strategic goals of the business units. 

What you’ll do:

  • Project manage major initiatives such as merit program, gender pay analysis, and partner on equity grant submission 
  • Assist and participate setting up compensation practices for HRIS and other systems and maintain relevant compensation data in systems
  • M&A compensation activities
  • Compensation work related to geographical expansion to new countries
  • Review existing and proposed statutory requirements governing compensation administration and recommend appropriate course of action
  • Conduct market studies and analysis to ensure internal equity, external competitiveness, and alignment to the company’s compensation philosophy.  Formulate recommendations regarding development of company salary structure, merit budget, equity burn-rate etc.
  • Audit jobs for content, assist with job leveling and provide relevant compensation information (e.g., FLSA status, pay mix etc.)
  • Provide subject-matter expertise. Advise and educate on our compensation philosophy and programs to bring a strong vision of efficient and effective compensation business processes to life
  • Participate in compensation design and review projects including job architecture and salary structures and other compensation focused initiatives as they arise
  • Make cohesive recommendations to drive process improvements to advance compensation workflows and program delivery
  • Proactively share relevant information and timely updates for improved organizational performance

If you have some or all of the following, please apply:

  • 8+ years of related work experience, pre-IPO experience a plus
  • A self-starter, with good influencing and negotiation skills, who can work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Experience in a fast-paced high-tech environment required. Adept at responding to changing priorities and evolving practices and processes
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills and the ability to partner and consult across the organization
  • In depth knowledge of compensation fundamentals (e.g., job matching and market pricing, equity practices and mechanics, cyclical programs, incentive program design etc.)
  • Prior experience working with large amounts of data, utilizing strong analytical skills to interpret compensation trends and build intelligence through reporting, with high attention to data validity and detail
  • Consistent track record of creating meaningful, understandable models, reports, and training
  • Proven ability to translate quantitative insights to non-quantitative audiences to effectively develop and present logical, convincing compensation observations in support of your perspective and company initiatives to stakeholders
  • Knowledge of relational databases and HRIS tools
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills in communicating and interpreting compensation philosophy, program design, and recommendations effectively to all levels of the organization
  • A proven ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships and alliances with key stakeholders – influencing and empowering others through strong partnerships
  • Commitment to clients; high level of responsiveness
  • Global compensation practices strongly preferred
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions a plus

At BetterUp, we compensate our employees fairly for their work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, residence location, as well as market indicators. The range below is representative of base salary only and does not include equity, sales bonus plans (when applicable) and benefits. This range may be modified in the future.

The base salary range for this role is $130,000 – $220,000.

If you live in New York, the base salary range for this role is: 
$147,000 – $220,000: New York City
$138,000 – $207,000: Nassau, Newburgh
$130,000 – $195,000: Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse
