The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Engineering Technologist II to join our team of professionals in the Permits, Licences and Inspections Division, Permits and Inspections Department. Reporting to the Manager, Permits and Inspections, in this unionized position you will apply your knowledge and experience in building construction to monitor projects, perform site inspections, and provide design and technical assistance and direction.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform building construction planning, design, and inspection services as it relates to building construction
  • Liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts including other departments, the public, consultants, contractors, engineers and other agencies on engineering requirements, policies and related matters
  • Prepare, review and maintain a variety of correspondence such as technical studies and status reports and project specifications
  • Design and prepare layout work for large project components
  • Conduct field inspections and ensure that all work is performed in accordance with building codes and established regulations
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a diploma in civil and structural technology, building technology or other related discipline, including or supplemented by courses in project management, plus considerable related experience preferably in a Municipal setting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Considerable knowledge of engineering principles and construction practices and procedures
  • Ability to review, analyze, assess, and interpret plans, specifications, technical studies, contracts, and other material related to building construction
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with internal/external contacts, the public, consultants and contractors
  • Working knowledge of building codes, plumbing codes, and bylaws is considered an asset

  • BC Class 5 (full-privilege) Driver’s License or equivalent driver’s license for where you reside.   • Certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of BC

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $44.22 – $52.21 per hour (5 steps, 2024 rates) plus benefits. The hours of work are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm.
