As a member of the Nursing & Midwifery Executive, the Deputy Director of Nursing & Midwifery is responsible for the onsite co-ordination and daily operational management of the Facility. This includes the coordination of nursing and midwifery resources, patient access & demand related matters as well as incident response and escalation. The position will provide leadership and service development in areas relating to access and patient flow, after hours management, clinical support and risk management.
In conjunction with the Nursing & Midwifery Executive the DDONM will participate in the monitoring of the nursing service. The DDONM has a key role in leading initiatives that aide towards the achievement of targets relating to patient flow & access performance; Participate and lead patient access & flow meetings to effectively monitor & manage progress agains key performance targets; Recognise and respond rapidly and appropriately to potential or actual adverse or other unexpected events that impact on the site. The DDONM is to ensure effective processes & resources are in place for the recognition of & response to clinical emergencies to optimise patient outcomes; Promote and support models of care & innovative nursing roles appropriate to the patient population and nursing service; Support clinical risk management approaches to ensure accountability for professional practice and patient safety; Ensure effective and efficient practices to maintain staffing levels within the budgeted resource allocation including deployment and use of casual and agency staff; Ensure the appropriate matching of resources with workload in consultation with the Casual Staffing Office & After Hours Nurse Managers.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.
