SALARY: $121,744 to $134,247 annually plus comprehensive benefits package

The Infrastructure Planning Division of the Engineering Department is seeking a permanent, full-time Project Engineer with extensive knowledge and experience in water, sanitary/combined, and stormwater systems. As a key member of the team, you will provide expertise to contribute to the planning, design and construction of a wide variety of municipal infrastructure projects and initiatives. This role is responsible for supporting the Engineering Development Services team with review and approval of development related offsite works that provide water, sanitary/combined and storm sewer services to residents. This role will collaborate extensively with the City Development Services department in facilitating the growth of the City. This is an exciting opportunity for a Utilities Engineer who is interested in expanding their experience in utilities management and making meaningful contributions to a growing community.
 
Reporting to the Acting Manager of Infrastructure Planning, the successful candidate will provide the above noted responsibilities. This position will be also responsible for

  • Undertaking engineering utilities reviews for subdivision and major development applications;
  • Reviewing hydraulic modelling memos to assess the capacity of existing utilities to meet current and future demand created by development;
  • Identifying and recommending development related investment opportunities for Utilities in the current and future demand created by development;
  • Developing and implementing policies and bylaw updates related to development as needed;
  • Contributing and providing input to Development Services on community planning projects impact on Utilities at the local and/or neighborhood scale;
  • Participating in the development of long range utility master-plans and aiding in the development of programs and plans related to Asset Management and on-going growth in the city;
  • Participating in the development of short and long range coordinated capital programs;
  • Participating in a budget preparation for utilities capital programs;
  • Preparing technical reports, Council Reports, presentations, letters and memos; and
  • Resolving problems and complaints related to development & utilities and providing information and assistance to the public.  

The preferred candidate will possess:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering and several years’ experience related to municipal engineering focusing on the provision of utilities (water, sanitary/combined, and stormwater systems);
  • Membership or eligibility for immediate membership as a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC;
  • Knowledge of development and land use planning and practices;
  • BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
