Position Summary:
The City of Nelson is seeking enthusiastic individuals for the Summer Student positions available in our Municipal Operations departments for the 2024 summer season. This unique opportunity aims to provide students with a meaningful experience by actively contributing to the maintenance and improvement of our City’s infrastructure, construction projects, and the upkeep of our picturesque parks and grounds. As a Summer Student in our team, you will play a vital role in preserving the beauty and charm of the City while supporting our ambitious goal of becoming the number one municipality in Canada based on value for service. We’re looking for candidates who have a good grasp of materials, tools, and equipment, and also have the physical resilience – strength, stamina, and coordination – to comfortably handle outdoor manual work in any weather.
Qualified applicants will:
Have their Grade 12 or GED
Have a valid Class 5 or 7 Drivers License Valid First Aid
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Hands on experience with gardening, landscaping, and related activities
Compensation:
$17.00/ hour plus an additional 4% in lieu of paid vacation, and benefit entitlements.
Hours/Days:
7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday
Preference will be given to applicants who have been a full time student in the 2023/2024 academic year, and going into full time studies in September 2024. Proof of studies may be required.
