Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position will lead and direct the work of both the Enterprise Services and Web Development IT sub-groups. Responsible for planning, executing, and managing the strategy of our foundational technology portfolio, as well as ensuring effective operations (i.e. reliable, secure, and high availability) of all college applications, server infrastructure, network components, data protection, account management, and the college’s web environment. This position also directs and manages multiple high-priority project and operational initiatives; oversees, mentors, and develops staff to ensure projects and operations are executed in a high-quality, timely manner. As appropriate, the Associate Director will fill in when the Executive Director of Information Technology is unavailable.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Strategic Planning & Leadership

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to help ensure the College’s strategic plan goals are met.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and oversee all policy, procedures, and associated plans related to infrastructure administration and application development
  • Participate as a senior member of the Information Technology team in governance processes for the organization’s technology strategy
  • Lead strategic planning to achieve the college’s mission by prioritizing best practices for infrastructure and application deployment, using a risk-based assessment methodology
  • Develop, implement, and manage cloud strategy, including evaluating feasibility, technology and skill-development needs, and long-term plan to ensure proper fit of technology with strategy
  • Lead the designing and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans, procedures, audits and enhancements
  • Determine fiscal requirements for the Enterprise and Web Development areas, and prepare budgetary recommendations;
  • Develop and communicate strategies and plans to executive team, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders
  • Create and maintain operational policy and procedural documentation, ensuring standards are met by the staff
  • Collaborate with IT management to execute and adhere to Security Plan
  • Ensure maintenance, updates, and patches are tested, applied and maintained for all network infrastructure and local applications

Supervision:

  • Occasionally chair staff selection committees, adhering to all College policies and procedures;
  • Develop and align professional development of staff to college strategy and initiatives
  • Assign employee work hours, job responsibilities and as necessary specific job tasks to meet the needs of the college;
  • Arrange for job-specific employee training as appropriate;
  • Appropriately delegate tasks, and provide employees with clear and effective guidance on work priorities and workplace issues, allowing the employees to build their skills, but still ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Create and maintain a job description for each direct report;
  • Complete performance evaluations annually, and on schedule for each direct report;
  • Assist employees in developing relevant and feasible professional development plans and goals;
  • Provide performance/coaching counseling as necessary to maximize performance and to ensure that projects are completed on time;
  • Provide for appropriate discipline as necessary and troubleshoot workplace issues that interfere with employee productivity
  • Adhere to all policy, law, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement(s) regarding employee working conditions;
  • Effectively manage employee relations within the department, including facilitation of conflict resolution and the handling of formal or informal grievances as necessary;
  • Maintain a working knowledge of policy basics such as overtime rules, leave policies, payroll procedures, etc.;
  • Include employees in department decision-making as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in IT, IS or CS from an accredited institution or 10+ years of equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated participation in positions of increasing administrative responsibility which include supervisory and/or management of personnel
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to effectively manage through ambiguity or quickly changing environments
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct research into technology to meet business needs
  • Ability to present highly technical information into user-friendly language
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Team oriented and skilled in working in a collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience and knowledge in:

  • Enterprise system architecture and design
  • Enterprise application development and deployment
  • Experience building and maintaining business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Experience building and deploying cloud infrastructure and applications
  • Experience in building or managing projects that deal with web application integrations
  • Experience in supporting an enterprise-level website, including both a public site and intranet site

One or more certifications in:

  • AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP Certification
  • Microsoft MCSE: Core Infrastructure

Work Hours: Typical work hours are 8 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday with occasional night and weekend hours. Summer schedule is condensed to 4 10s, typically with Fridays off.

Additionally, Everett Community College Administrative/Exempt employees accrue 16 hours of vacation for every month of service, during which the employee is in pay status for 10 or more days; 8 hours of sick leave for every month of service, during which the employee is in pay status for 10 or more days; 11 paid holidays throughout the year, plus 3 paid personal holidays.
