Salary: Grade 8 / £46,974 – £56,021 per annum plus £4,000 London Weighting Allowance per annum

The Institute of Inner-City Learning (IICL) is one of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s four Institutes with campuses in Birmingham and London. The IICL is looking for a Senior Lecturer in Health and Social Care to join our London campus on a fixed term contract for 1 year.

THE ROLE

The post of Senior Lecturer in Health and Social Care will be located within the IICL. The post-holder will be under the line management of the Academic Director but will be expected to contribute to programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level across the discipline and wider Institute. The post holder will be expected to undertake scholarship, research, training or project work, either individually or within a team, to support the Centre and to enhance the profile of the wider Institute and University. The postholder will also be required to develop internal and external collaborative relationships and to contribute to programme developments, teaching and assessment related (but not exclusively) to Health and Social Care.

The post holder will offer both academic and pastoral support and feedback to a diverse range of learners to the highest professional standards and regarding the ongoing enhancement of the student experience.

The postholder will make a positive contribution to the day-to-day activities of the Discipline that may cover areas such as research supervision, student recruitment, marketing activities, research seminars and workshops, staff training and professional development.

MAIN DUTIES

The role includes, but is not restricted to, the following:

• Offer teaching and student support in health and social care at undergraduate and postgraduate level of study.
• Contribute to stakeholder engagement, course delivery and development of wider strategic initiatives.
• Offer teaching in a variety of learnings settings from seminar and small group tutorials, practical skills work, to personal development, using appropriate and engaging teaching styles, within an established programme of study and to relevant professional standards.
• Design and develop teaching materials, assessment methods and criteria with a clear awareness and understanding of relevant quality assurance requirements.
• Supervise the work of students in a timely, professional and supportive manner, providing necessary advice on study skills, research methods, assessment and dissertation work.
• Offer appropriate advice, feedback, support, and encouragement to students, in both an academic and personal tutor role, to ensure a high-quality student experience.
• Undertake programme management responsibilities.
• Undertake relevant scholarly and research activity, as a means of updating knowledge in an appropriate specialism and underpinning effective learning and teaching, or for seeking publication, knowledge transfer, public dissemination, or for funding and grant opportunities.
• Engage in continuing professional development and enhancement, for example by gaining membership of the Higher Education Academy, through relevant University staff development or through membership of a relevant professional body.
• Be an active and enthusiastic member of the Discipline, working collaboratively with colleagues, participating in school boards and staff-student committees, attending, where appropriate, Faculty working groups and committees, and making a positive contribution to the overall culture and environment of the School.

REQUIREMENTS

You should have:

• A postgraduate qualification in Health and Social Care or a relevant discipline.
• Proven track record of working in/with a range of relevant applied professional settings.
• Previous experience of teaching and supervision at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
• Experience of working in the UK HE sector at appropriate level 5) Ability to work across different teams and take the lead on strategic initiatives.
• Demonstrable commitment to equality and diversity in working practices.
• Willingness to work flexibly to meet role requirements.
• Experience of academic programme administration and management.
