based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay
range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Job Description Summary
The Content Marketing Strategist will
help set the content marketing strategy for the Strategic Marketing and Communications (SMC) department at Chapman University and will serve
as the lead in-house copywriter for marketing-related print and digital content. The role will develop a unifying content marketing
strategy, in tandem with SMC’s Director of Content Strategy, leadership and marketing team, and will create various types of content,
including ad and email campaign copy, web copy, blog articles, videos, print collateral, and newsletters aimed at undergraduate and graduate
recruitment to Chapman. The role will produce creative and engaging content for the full funnel of the admission process including top of
the funnel advertising as well as lead-nurture content (communication flows), both in print and digital. The role will also write creative
content-articles, listicles, to-do lists, infographics, how-to lists- related to the Chapman experience aimed at prospective students.
Additionally, the role will participate in editing content for colleagues and partners and contribute to activities that include content
strategy and calendar development; content creation and promotion; and other tasks that help SMC achieve its strategic communication
objectives.
Responsibilities
Create content for university recruitment marketing
campaigns
- Develop and help implement a unifying content marketing strategy, in tandem with SMC’s Director of Content
Strategy and leadership and marketing teams. - Write diverse marketing collateral including ads, email copy, social, web copy,
stories, print collateral, video scripts, and more using the Chapman brand voice and tone. Work with Creative Services team to ensure
alignment between words and visuals. - Research and information gathering.
- Work closely with admission subject-matter experts
to understand the timelines and needs of undergraduate and graduate recruitment to support the development of marketing and communication
materials. - Web content creation and utilizing SEO best practices.
Content Strategy
- Participate in
content planning, including story development for university magazines, homepage, e-newsletters, special sections, sponsored content and
campaign deliverables. - Review and understand SMC’s key goals, audiences and channels to ensure content aligns.
- Research and
report on content marketing trends to help SMC keep current and produce marketing-effective content. - Participate in the development
of marketing campaigns plans and creative brainstorming to ensure the content needs align with the audience and
goals.
Other Projects as Assigned, including but not limited to:
- Desktop publishing utilizing
WordPress. - Conduct developmental editing, copy editing and proofreading tasks for team- and partner-generated content using AP and
house styles. - Project management utilizing WorkFront.
- Plan and coordinate photo and video shoots as
directed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or English, or equivalent
combination of education and experience. - Demonstrated experience in marketing content and search engine optimization
(SEO). - Excellent storytelling skills with focus on marketing writing for digital.
- Solid editing and proofreading
skills. - At least 6 years of experience in writing, communications, public relations, content creation, or
marketing. - Willingness to learn and implement best practice for digital writing and SEO (with digital marketing
team). - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all
organizational levels. - Highly organized and responsive to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Have a continuous
improvement mentality and proactive work style to make sure we are always optimizing our various web and communication
experience. - An understanding or willingness to learn marketing automation tools and tactics to help develop audience journeys and
comm flows. - Competence with common platforms (Outlook, Google Drive, Google docs, Google Drive).

- Strong technical skills to learn enterprise workflow systems and desktop publishing.
