The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnologies (CEB) is seeking to appoint two Lecturers in Chemical Engineering. As part of the School of Engineering and Innovation within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS), these roles present an exciting opportunity to contribute to our vibrant academic community.
CEB is internationally recognised for its world-class research, the high quality of its graduates, and its strong track record of graduate employability. Our department fosters a close relationship between chemical engineering and chemistry in both teaching and research. We are proud to have our undergraduate programmes ranked 3rd in the UK for Chemical Engineering (Guardian University Guide 2024).
Our principal research areas include Polymers, Advanced Materials, Catalysis, Bioenergy, and Bioproducts. These areas are supported by two EPS Research Institutes: the Aston Institute for Membrane Excellence (AIME) and the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI). AIME conducts cutting-edge multidisciplinary research in computational membrane science, membrane structural determination, and sustainable polymers. EBRI, based in state-of-the-art facilities on campus, focuses on biomass, bioenergy, biotechnology, and catalysis research, driving innovation towards a sustainable future.
As the successful candidate you should hold a first degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering or science discipline, as well as a PhD in a relevant engineering field. You should also demonstrate potential for publishing in internationally recognised journals and have effective strategies for securing external research funding. We are particularly interested in candidates with ability to teach chemical engineering process modelling, including applications of machine learning, digital twins development, and big data concepts in our BEng/MEng/MSc programmes.
