Title: Adjunct Instructor
in Speech-Language Pathology
Position Summary:
The Department of Communication Sciences and
Disorders at LIU Brooklyn is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach one or all of the following three graduate-level courses in
speech-language pathology: SLP 614B Adult/Children Diagnostic Practicum, SLP 605 Diagnosis of Speech and Language Disorders, and SLP 610A
Practicum in Speech Therapy. This position requires expertise in diagnostics, clinical practice, and teaching graduate students in both
academic and clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- SLP 614B Adult/Children Diagnostic Practicum:
o Guide students in applying theoretical knowledge of speech and language assessment to both adult and child
populations.
o Supervise students in preparing for evaluations, conducting ethnographic interviews, family interviews,
administration of standardized and nonstandardized assessments including dynamic assessments and speech sampling and synthesize all findings
during the evaluation
o Oversee report writing
o Facilitate classes that alternate between
evaluation preparation/discussion, report writing, and performing diagnostic evaluations for clients referred to the LIU clinic.
- SLP 605 Diagnosis of Speech and Language Disorders:
o Teach students about diagnosis across the
lifespan using norm-referenced, criterion-referenced, and informal approaches.
o Emphasize the impact of cultural and
linguistic diversity on assessment practices.
o Instruct students in data collection, observation, analysis, and report
writing.
- SLP 610A Practicum in Speech Therapy:
o Support students in developing professional
identity and clinical decision-making skills.
o Provide guidance on goal writing and implementing evidence-based,
culturally, and linguistically responsive practices.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in
Speech-Language Pathology with CCC-SLP certification is required; a Ph.D. with CCC-SLP is preferred. - Demonstrated
experience in diagnostics, including assessing and diagnosing speech and language disabilities across diverse populations. - Experience teaching graduate students in both clinical and academic settings.
- Strong commitment to culturally and
linguistically responsive practices in speechlanguage pathology.
Salary Range: $1,000-$1,350 per
credit
