GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

The Asset and Liabilities Officer oversees the management of assets and liabilities to optimize profitability, liquidity, and risk management. The candidate is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to maximize returns on investments while minimizing risk exposure.

WORK EXPERIENCE/ REQUIREMENT

  • 3 years and above in similar position preferably financial service (PFA or others)

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION/PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Graduate degree in relevant Finance and/or quantitative subjects, e.g. Applied Mathematics, Physics or Engineering. B.Sc. Minimum 2.2
  • Professional Accounting, and or Business Administration, or a similar field, professional financial qualification.
  • Relevant experience in a treasury / credit function and exposure to man-management and leading teams.
  • Financial reporting (IFRS) and Capital reporting experience and a working understanding of the dynamics between Finance and Risk Management under Basel 2.
  • Capital Markets experience and strong knowledge of fund accounting for Real Estate, Private Equity and Infrastructure funds.
  • Experienced in treasury products with extensive capital market experience, credit and financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of hedging interest rates and foreign exchange exposures.
  • Good knowledge of cash management products.
  • Strong understanding of capital markets and balance sheet management techniques.

JOB FUNCTION

Asset Management:

  • Develop and execute investment strategies to optimize the organization’s asset portfolio.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of financial markets, economic trends, and investment opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of various investment assets, such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and derivatives.
  • Recommend investment decisions based on risk appetite, financial goals, and market conditions.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, traders, and analysts to ensure effective asset allocation and diversification.

Liability Management:

  • Oversee the management of liabilities, including debt obligations, loans, and other financial commitments.
  • Assess and manage interest rate risk by monitoring market conditions and implementing appropriate hedging strategies.
  • Develop strategies to optimize the organization’s funding and liquidity positions.
  • Analyze and evaluate the impact of regulatory changes on liabilities and ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with treasury and finance teams to ensure effective cash flow management and liquidity planning.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess risks associated with assets and liabilities, such as credit risk, market risk, and liquidity risk.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and policies to safeguard the organization against potential losses.
  • Conduct stress tests, scenario analyses, and other risk assessment techniques.
  • Monitor and evaluate key risk indicators and report findings to senior management.
  • Stay updated with industry regulations and best practices related to asset and liability management

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare regular reports on the performance of assets and liabilities, including key financial metrics and portfolio analytics.
  • Conduct financial modeling and forecasting to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide insightful analysis and recommendations to senior management based on data-driven insights.
  • Collaborate with finance teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting

Relationship Management:

  • Engage with external stakeholders, such as regulators, auditors, and rating agencies, to ensure compliance and maintain strong relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including finance, risk management, and compliance, to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Managing balance sheet, cash flow, and ensuring provision of funds for the company
  • Implementing an assets and liabilities strategy (gapping) that optimizes the company’s return, in accordance with the ALCO’s guidelines/ recommendations.
  • Developing and recommending financial policies, capital structure, hedging policies, as well as maintenance of bank relationships.
  • Preparing ongoing assessment of asset & liability mismatches and managing the implementation of required short-term and medium-term financing structures.
  • Identifying potential financial risks for the company, ensuring they do not adversely affect company funds (e.g. foreign exchange exposures).
  • Managing daily cash balances, and surplus cash for other assets (e.g. money markets, fixed income).
  • Making decisions on funding company operations and other financing requirement.
  • Management of debt capital raising strategy, origination and execution of structured finance and hedging strategies, cash management strategies.
  • Forecasting cash payments and anticipating potential challenges arising from limited cash flow.
  • Setting strategy and overseeing management of Money Market to maximize treasury returns in compliance with the company’s market risk strategy.
  • Ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements (e.g. reserve requirements).
  • Analysing the impact of international markets on the performance of company products or services.
