Duties &
Responsibilities

VCU Athletics is seeking a highly motivated and skilled professional to join our team as the Assistant
AD for Marketing & Promotions, responsible for driving brand awareness and executing innovative promotional strategies.

Summary:

The Assistant AD for Marketing & Promotions is responsible for creating and implementing marketing and
promotion plans for all 17 intercollegiate athletic programs. Reporting to the Deputy AD, this position works collaboratively with
Communications and Tickets to promote the VCU Athletics brand and our sporting events.

Typical Duties


  • Responsible for creating and implementing marketing and promotion plans for all 17 intercollegiate athletic programs;
  • Seek new
    ways, using social media, guerrilla marketing techniques, and grass roots cultivation to sell tickets to the VCU Rams men’s and women’s
    basketball games, men’s and women’s soccer games, volleyball matches and baseball games;
  • Develop new and creative ways to promote
    VCU Athletics; and
  • Work closely with the VCU Athletics Communications Staff to strategically communicate branding, marketing, and
    promotional campaigns to the public through various external mediums.
  • Work closely with the VCU Ticket Office to help implement
    group and season ticket initiatives.
  • Management of Assistant Director of Marketing and all of Spirit area leaders (e.g. Pep Band,
    Dance Team, Cheerleading), including use of Talent@VCU for performance management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education to
    equate to a bachelor’s degree;
  • Significant in game promotion and management experience;
  • Three (3) years’ experience in
    a marketing office of a professional or intercollegiate sports program/franchise;
  • Demonstrated experience working in and
    fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU;
  • Strong verbal and
    written communications skills; and
  • Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree;
  • Knowledge of all
    applicable NCAA rules and regulations; and
  • Supervisory experience.
