About the Job

The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the
College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track
position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in fall semester of 2025, to strengthen our missions in audiology and hearing
science
.

We are searching for a scholar whose work focuses on hearing disorders; attractive areas of scholarship include
but are not limited to: hearing aids, rehabilitative audiology, and hearing assessment.

A core value of the department is
broadening the representation of a wide range of individuals and perspectives in the profession of audiology and speech-language pathology
across all possible dimensions of diversity. Therefore we are committed to attracting and supporting candidates who can demonstrate

innovation.

Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May). Appointment will be made at
the rank of tenure-track assistant professor.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Faculty are expected to develop a
sustainable research program, teach courses in the AuD curriculum, pursue external funding, advise students in Au.D. and Ph.D. programs, and
contribute service to the department and to the profession of audiology.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • History of scholarship within the
    field of audiology, hearing science, or another relevant discipline with clear connection to audiology.
  • Demonstrated ability and
    eagerness to teach at the undergraduate and graduate (AuD) levels, including general-interest courses, courses on clinical topics, and
    courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.
  • Ph.D. in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and Disorders, Psychology,
    Neuroscience, Education, or other related discipline by the start date of their appointment

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in hearing disorders, rehabilitative audiology, hearing aids, or a combination of
    these areas.
  • History of competitiveness for seeking and obtaining research funding
  • An advanced degree in
    audiology
  • Familiarity and direct experience with the goals of clinical audiology, especially graduate student
    training
  • Clinical experience in audiology.
    * Evidence of attention to cultural diversity in teaching, research, and/or service,
    especially within the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology, and the ability to contribute to the University’s commitment to
    equity and diversity.

Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation, evidence of
research and scholarly competence, history and potential for obtaining external research funding, evidence of commitment to and skills in
teaching, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and strength of recommendations.

The department offers internationally recognized programs in
speech-language­-hearing sciences (BA, Ph.D.), speech-language pathology (M.A.), and audiology (Au.D.) that provide outstanding
opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue academic, educational, and clinical careers.

The department is
strongly committed to community engagement and advancing an understanding of cultural and individual diversity in society (e.g., diversity
related to age, ability/disability, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, or
socioeconomic status). We host a Diversity in Communication Specialty Program for graduate students in speech-language pathology and
audiology to guide the development of in-depth knowledge and skills within a specific, diversity-related, area of interest. Faculty research

Many faculty collaborate with university-wide centers, including the Center for Applied and Translational Sensory Sciences, the Masonic
Institute for the Developing Brain, Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute
and the Center for Clinical
Movement Disorders
. The department also has ongoing collegial relationships with the departments of Psychology, Otolaryngology, and with
the College of Education and Human Development.
