The editorial team of HigherEdJobs is hiring an associate director of editorial strategy, special projects. We are seeking a person who
is knowledgeable and passionate about higher education and motivated to assist higher ed professionals to think meaningfully about their
careers. This person will work as a key part of the team to create and share news, information, and resources to engage our higher education
audience. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable editorial work experience with the leading job board and career resource center
in higher education. This is a full-time position with the option of remote work.

HigherEdJobs, was founded in 1996 by the three partners to revolutionize the way faculty, staff and administrators search for jobs. Over 1.5
million unique visitors monthly search editorial content and job postings on HigherEdJobs. In 2022, there were over 480,000 jobs from over
3,500 institutions posted on HigherEdJobs.
Objective: Working under the director of editorial strategy, the goal of
the associate director of editorial strategy, special projects will be a key member of the editorial team, helping to drive the engagement
of our higher education audience through the creation of unique content. Topics will include higher education news, trends, resources, and
best practices related to staff, faculty and leadership audiences with a significant emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion topics. An
additional priority for the person in this role will be to expand the reach of the HigherEdJobs Podcast.
Salary:
$58,000 to $68,000 per year including full company benefits.
Duties: Collaborating with the director of
editorial strategy, the associate director of editorial strategy, special projects is responsible for the following:
Writing/Editing:
- Create topic ideas and write approximately 3-4 pieces a month. Must be comfortable
- performing research and securing experts to be interviewed and quoted. Writer is responsible for following AP style formatting and
adhering to agreed upon deadlines. - Assist with editing pieces submitted by other writers for AP style formatting and uploading to
site. - Participate in pitch meetings and planning meetings.
Podcast:
- Manage the HigherEdJobs
Podcast process. Help research and develop topics/guests, handle outreach to guests, schedule and coordinate episode recordings, and create
questions. Work in coordination with marketing to highlight podcast through various channels.
Outreach/Engagement:
- Manage online engagement events for job seekers/higher professionals.
- Collaborate with the director and team on ideas on
how to engage job seekers and current professionals through new and archived editorial content. - In collaboration with the director,
coordinate outreach to authors, associations, publishers, and other outside constituents to promote editorial content and assist in building
relationships. - Manage the social media accounts for the chief operating officer and director and assist in promotion of editorial
content. - Occasionally travel to conferences for editorial networking opportunities.
Coordination/Administration:
- Manage spreadsheet to track views and other statistics of articles to determine trends
in popular topics/ideas. - Help manage freelance writers.
- Assist chief operating officer and director with occasional
administrative tasks.
Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required.Candidates with a degree in
journalism, English, communications, media-related field or higher education preferred, with a master’s degree in a related area
strongly desired. Person must possess at least 5 to 7 years previous experience working in higher education. Must have at least 2 to 3 years
of proven published writing experience. Knowledge of authentic practices in acknowledging diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and
belonging in academia efforts desired. Applicants with experience in managing or producing a podcast preferred. Must have the ability to be
professional, possess a positive attitude, work well in a team environment, and have a degree of flexibility since some deadlines could be
time sensitive. Must be able to travel occasionally and feel comfortable networking and building relationships within the higher education
community.
