The Public Safety Department, Bylaw Services, is looking for a regular full-time Bylaw Enforcement Officer 2 to join their team.
In this position, you will be responsible for inspectional, regulatory and investigational work related to the enforcement of a variety of City Bylaws. Your primary focus will be to investigate and process complaints concerning animal control bylaw infractions. In addition, you will be asked to investigate violations in a variety of areas such as, but not limited to, street and traffic, commercial vehicles, election signs, fireworks, graffiti, noise, property, parks, construction activity and smoking, zoning regulations, and utilize a number of enforcement tools to obtain compliance.
You will also assist other departments/divisions with the enforcement of bylaws and regulations, explain and interpret bylaws to the public, research information, prepare a wide variety of correspondence, reports, records, and prosecution evidence, liaise with a variety of contacts, and appear in Court, Adjudication Hearings or other quasi-judicial hearings of Council when required.
You must have sound experience in inspectional and enforcement work, a good knowledge of related bylaws, regulations, and the geographical area, familiarity with the evidentiary procedures for Court, Adjudication Hearings or other quasi-judicial hearings of Council, along with a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. You will also have the ability to work with minimal direction, proven public relations and communication skills to educate and deal proactively, tactfully, and firmly with the public, the physical ability to perform tasks associated with bylaw enforcement, and report writing skills. Preference will be given to candidates with bylaw enforcement related courses/training and knowledge of building and construction site practices would be an asset.
A further condition of employment is the obtaining and maintenance of an RCMP security clearance.
Salary:
$34.69 – $40.82 per hour
(Pay Grade 20 – January 2023 rates)
Hours of Work:
10 consecutive hours, inclusive of an unpaid one hour meal break, between the hours of 6:00 am and 11:00 pm, any four consecutive days with three consecutive days off. The anticipated scheduled hours of work for this position are Wednesday to Saturday, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.
