The Public Works Division has an exciting opportunity available for a permanent full-time Certified Pump Mechanic! Saanich is seeking an experienced journeyman mechanic in the Storm and Wastewater Section to perform tradesperson work at the journeyman level, requiring skill and ability to apply the maintenance and repair procedures for storm & wastewater facilities. Duties include small engine repair, electrical troubleshooting, welding, fabricating, pipefitting and mechanical repairs pertaining to sewer & drain lift stations. Includes design input, procurement and construction/maintenance supervision for storm & wastewater facilities.
 
Qualified candidates have Grade 12 or equivalent; EOCP Level II Wastewater Collection Certification; supervisory training and experience; Trades Qualification Certificate or certificate of apprenticeship in heavy duty mechanics, or mechanics, or millwrighting, or industrial electrical; successful completion of a pump maintenance course from a recognized vocational/technical institution; Certificate from a vocational/technical school for oxygen acetylene, ARC and MIG welding; four years of experience or a combination or experience and training in work directly related to sewer and lift stations; a valid BC Driver’s Licence; and must be fit to perform work in all weather conditions and work while in close proximity or in actual contact with raw sewage. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
 
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week) and must be able to work in all types of weather.
