Certified Utility Operator – Treatment & Supply

Position Overview
The Town of Ladysmith is seeking a highly qualified Certified Utility Operator II or Certified Utility Operator III. Reporting to the Utilities Supervisor – Treatment and Supply, the pertinent level Certified Utility Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town’s sanitary sewage, treatment/water treatment systems. Work involves making operational decisions and performing operational and maintenance duties in order to maintain effluent and water treatment quality that meets or exceeds all compliance obligations detailed in the Town’s operating permit, Ministry of Environment guidelines and applicable Provincial and Federal legislation.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a minimum grade 12 education and possess EOCP Water Distribution Level I and EOCP Wastewater Collection Level I Certification. In addition, they must possess Cross Connection Control, Confined Space and, Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificates. A valid B.C. driver’s license – class 3 with airbrake endorsement is required, as well as First Aid Level 1 and WHMIS certificates. Applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of motorized vehicles and equipment and, various infrastructure services tools and light industrial equipment. In addition, the operator must possess either of the following:
- Certified Utility Operator II – EOCP Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment Level II Certification and 3 years of recent and relevant experience.
- Certified Utility Operator III – EOCP Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment Level III Certification and 5 years of recent and relevant experience.
Additional Information
This is a unionized position. A comprehensive benefit package is included. Based on a 40 hour work week, the rate of pay is based on level of certification:
- Certified Utility Operator II – $37.58 per hour (2024-$38.52)
- Certified Utility Operator III – $41.80 per hour (2024-$42.85)
