Job Description
The Centre for Human Rights Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU CHREN) at Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) brings together researchers from different academic disciplines working in the wider field of human rights. CHREN’s work is committed to fostering academically rigorous, theoretically well-grounded, practice-orientated, critical, and diverse human rights research. It also serves as a hub of teaching in the field of human rights across several faculties at FAU.

With a view to further strengthening and expanding its human rights-related research and teaching, the Centre will appoint up to three full-time postdoctoral researchers at pay Grade E 13 of the Collective bargaining agreement for public servants in the German Länder (TVL), approximately between 4.000 and 6.000 € per month before tax and social security insurance depending on qualifications and experience for an initial period of appointment of three years. The earliest envisaged start date for this position is 1 March 2024.

Qualifications
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Doctorate in law, the humanities, or social sciences, including in particular international law or political science, obtained within the last five years
- Candidates who have submitted their PhD dissertation and have an excellent master’s degree in a relevant field of study may be considered.
Candidates should have the following further skills and abilities:
- Ability to develop and implement a research plan in the area(s) of expertise, including through high-quality publications;
- Ability to work constructively as part of a collegial team;
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to engage students;
- Languages: Candidates must be able to use English as a working language in teaching and research. Proficiency in German is not required.
Responsibilities
Our new colleagues will be responsible for the following tasks
- Design and implementation of their own research project in the field of human rights, preferably related to at least one of the Centre’s focal research areas;
- Willingness to develop research grant applications within the Centre and participation in the submission of research funding grant applications as well as in the Centre’s broader research activities (events, outreach, etc.)
- Contribution to teaching at a level of 5 hours per week during teaching terms in the relevant teaching areas (for instance, law and/or political science), taking prior qualifications into account.
