In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale
reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a
variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please
note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Job Summary
The Communications Specialist, under supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Development, will
collaborate with WesternU Oregon stakeholders from a variety of disciplines to promote the impact of WesternU’s efforts in the Pacific
Northwest. The Communications Specialist is responsible for leading, developing and managing all aspects of internal/external
communications, including website content, newsletters, annual reports, social media presence, fundraising initiatives, etc. for the College
of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific – Northwest and the College of Health Sciences – Northwest within the objectives of the Division of
External Affairs.

Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills
and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable
accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Thorough analytical and written communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.

- Strong skills in event and media activities management.
- Experience in
social media and website content strategy and development. - Experience with vendor supervision, including graphic design, video, and
direct mailing houses. - Demonstrated writing and copy-editing experience.
- Professionalism handling donor and prospect
information. - Working knowledge of Adobe Cloud apps (InDesign, Premiere Pro, Photoshop) preferred.
- Must have knowledge of
Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; Office 365, including OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
Required Qualifications
1. EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in a relevant field is preferred.2. EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years of
work experience in communications and/or marketing. Outstanding writing skills with demonstrated experience communicating complex topics to
broad audiences. Experience in developing and implementing strategic communications plans. Experience in maintaining websites. Experience
with the design, management, and production of print and electronic materials. Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and as
part of a team. Demonstrated ability to set and balance multiple priorities. Excellent interpersonal and management skills are necessary for
interacting effectively with university and community partners. Experience in a research environment or academic setting is preferred.
Experience with digital media campaigns, content creation, and management of projects progress toward completion.

presence, and social media. Coordinates the design, production, and distribution of publications and promotional materials in alignment with
the goals of the External Affairs department.
