Germany’s largest research organization, the Helmholtz Association, launched Helmholtz AI: This dedicated, interdisciplinary platform develops and promotes applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods for the Association’s main research fields (Health, Energy, Earth and Environment, Information, Space, Matter) in collaboration with its external and university partners. Its central unit operates at Helmholtz Munich in Munich.

Our mission is to enable research scientists to leverage AI methods optimally. The Munich AI consultant team is focusing on Health and collaborates with researchers from the whole Helmholtz Association on projects on cancer and infection research, molecular medicine, as well as neurodegenerative and environmental diseases. Computer Vision Engineer (Health) (M/F/D)

Your tasks

  • Developing machine learning (ML) methods for unique imaging data sets generated by renowned researchers
  • Applying and disseminating emerging ML/AI methods to deliver data-driven insights and solve concrete research questions
  • Developing and maintaining open-source scientific software
  • Continuously learning about state-of-the-art computer vision methods and their applications
  • Being a fundamental part of one of the largest scientific AI initiatives in Europe

You will also play a crucial role in achieving our long-term goal of facilitating open access to ML expertise through interdisciplinary collaborations and dissemination.

Your profile

  • A master or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning or another related field
  • A track record in computer vision and machine learning, ideally combined with a specific background in healthcare or biology
  • Experience implementing state-of-the-art deep learning methods in Python, using Git/Github
  • A high degree of autonomy, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with different stakeholders
  • An open and curious mindset with a strong team spirit

If you fulfil all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
