Primary Purpose

The Digital Content Creator is responsible for planning, creating, coordinating, directing, filming, editing, writing, producing, and publishing video, multimedia, and photography content for Central Oregon Community College’s institutional level social media networks, website, and digital marketing campaigns.

The position provides direct support to COCC’s Marketing and Public Relations department and works in close collaboration with the Admissions and Records recruitment team, Student Life, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Community Education, Academic Affairs, and other internal stakeholders across the college.

The position creates unique content that follows current social media and marketing trends as well as user experience best practices for specific platforms (prioritizing TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram Reels) and for specific audiences (such as prospective student personas, current student personas, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Content Creation:

  • Plan, create, coordinate, direct, film, edit, write, produce, and publish engaging photo, video, and multimedia content designed specifically for COCC’s digital platforms and audiences.
  • Use Hootsuite to plan and schedule multimedia social media posts and campaigns.
  • Produce high-quality multimedia content including videos, images, and infographics.
  • Adhere to COCC brand, style, writing, and persona guides. Create content that always aligns with COCC’s Principles of Community.
  • Ensure all content is optimized for platform-specific search engines and meets ADA accessibility standards.
  • Post regular, engaging, weekly video content on COCC’s TikTok and Instagram platforms.
  • Research and stay up to date on digital media, social media, and digital communication trends, technologies, and best practices to ensure content is relevant, effective, and engaging, and to incorporate learning into content strategies and tactics.

Collaboration and Outreach:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Public Relations team, Admissions and Records recruitment team, COCC’s digital marketing agency, and other partners to develop and execute content strategies that align with COCC goals, messaging priorities, and strategic plan initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers, including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Attend COCC events and activities on the college’s Bend, Redmond, Madras, and Prineville campuses (as well as some off-site locations) to develop content.
  • In collaboration with the Web Designer and Assistant Director of Marketing and Public Relations, monitor and evaluate social media and website analytics in order to adjust content to target audiences’ interests and improve engagement.
  • Participate in COCC committees, workshops, or like events, as assigned.
  • Perform other essential functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.   • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of digital content creation.
  • Fluency in social media platforms, specifically TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, and a strong familiarity with these platforms’ respective audiences, optimal tactics, trends, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in video and photo editing and a familiarity with a variety of editing software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing digital content using an iPhone, GoPro, and similar portable, personal digital camera devices.
  • Proficient in core videography and photography principles, with expertise in utilizing various camera equipment for content creation.
  • Ability to design and create visually compelling graphics for social media, websites, and other digital platforms using tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with basic digital marketing practices, including paid advertising on social platforms, email marketing campaigns, and influencer collaborations.
  • Excellent copywriting skills in English.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices website analytics, and social media reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage conflicts within and/or between groups and to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds and other aspects of human diversity.
  • Ability to use software programs and database systems, which include Microsoft Office Suite, email, and office equipment.

Ergonomic Requirements

Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.

Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature, as well as outdoors in an active role that may cover 1-2 miles at a time. Requires the ability to work at a workstation and holding photography and video equipment for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Experience:

  • Two years of professional work experience in multimedia content production, including photography and videography, or relevant experience.
  • Two years of social media management, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate degree in a related professional field.

Experience:

  • Experience creating original, platform-specific written copy and video content specifically for brands’/organizations’ social media networks.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
