Job Summary
Working with the Center for Digital Humanities (CDH) at Southern Miss, the Digital Developer is a grant-funded position, renewable up to three years, tasked with the development of digital infrastructure, applications, projects, and resources in support of the center’s mission to serve as a digital humanities (DH) hub for the state of Mississippi.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop and support DH scholarship, both at USM and affiliated institutions across the state. The Developer should have experience in web-infrastructure development, database management, and supporting humanistic inquiry.

2. Develop the digital infrastructure for a series of summer workshops geared towards higher-education faculty, undergraduate students, and secondary-education teachers. Provide support for those workshops as they are held.

3. Train student workers, staff, and faculty to assist with and sustain digital tools and projects.

4. Adhere to CDH and university policies, procedures, and regulations, and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities, Computer Science, or related fields with five years’ experience in digital development, programming, and/or equivalent experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Web development and design (HTML, CSS, JS).
  • Experience with web hosting platforms.
  • Experience working in Python, Ruby, or other web-application languages.
  • Familiarity with open-source software.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-directed, seeks creative solutions, and adaptable.
  • Ability to supervise and teach skills.
  • Ability to adjust work based on input and work within a collaborative, team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with digital humanities projects, tools, and teams. Knowledge of computer hardware, networking, and server management required to build and maintain a web hosting server.
