ROLE of the POSITION
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive communication and marketing program for the School of Nursing at UNLV. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Outreach, Administration, and Engagement and is part of the unit’s executive leadership team.
The Director collaborates with school leadership, development staff, center directors and multiple university level partners to develop and execute strategies that will advance relationships between the School of Nursing and its stakeholders. Duties include creating and maintaining a communications plan that highlights faculty and student achievement and ties school priorities with key university initiatives; developing and/or managing creation of internal and external communications materials (collateral, news releases, feature and web content, advertising, and online and social media) for the school, its signature programs, faculty, staff and students; manage and update the school’s website; delivering communications and marketing counsel to the dean, administrators, center directors and advisory board members; coordinating with central university communicators on news and information about the School of Nursing; cultivating and maintaining a strong media presence through strategic outreach; and supporting annual and signature event programming and production.
Job Duties include but not limited to:

Managing and implementing programs and projects that build mutually-beneficial relationships with stakeholders, including faculty/staff, students, government and community officials, alumni, and the general public. Conducting research and developing plans, processes and strategies that are focused on building mutually beneficial relationships between the business school and its stakeholders (employees, elected officials, general public, current and prospective students, and alumni)

Development of marketing collateral materials and overall communications products that educate and inspire stakeholders about the unit’s programs, scholarship, and student achievement; this includes conceptualizing and producing content, and counseling administrators with advice and counsel on communications and marketing issues

Coordinating media responses and efforts with business school center directors, department chairs, and key faculty, university media relations professionals, and the external media contacts.

Working with the school’s webmaster and/or the Web Communications office to manage content and overall direction of the school’s website and other electronic products such as e-newsletters and e-announcements. Working closely with dean and key personnel to maintain a presence in social media outlets such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. This includes developing a communications plan, writing and editing copy, and serving as point of contact for online services, especially the website

Supervising graduate assistants and/or senior journalism and media studies students who will serve as communications assistants through paid internships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field.

Degree in Communications, Public Relations, English or Marketing preferred
