Roles and Responsibilities
At Currents, you’ll be responsible for launching the first protocol for decentralized distribution networks, starting in the music industry.
This will involve designing scalable, reliable web2+3 systems that serve our worldwide grassroots communities.
- Design and develop scalable back-end and payments systems. We use Typescript integrating a functional approach (fp-ts, etc), as well as functional languages such as Rust and Haskell.
- Lead engineering in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing quality with time and need-based constraints and requirements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to design, validate, and implement new mechanisms that crystallize the economic patterns behind art and music
- Engage in all phases of software development – from conception and design to testing and deployment.
What you Bring
- You’re well versed in (4C2) Rust, Haskell, Typescript, or Elm, with at least 5 years’ experience in the industry.
- You have experience leading startup teams through end-to-end product development, validating and building iteratively from first-principles.
- You have the ability to quickly assess large, amorphous problems by actively seeking context. You understand that it’s never idealism vs. reality, but both.
- You collaborate with a human-centered perspective and an exacting attention to detail in the products that you work on. You speak fluently with designers and engineers alike.
- You obsessively like to get involved in things. You’re constantly reading and researching and sharing new findings with friends.
- Whether they’re creative pursuits, side hustles, or hobbies, you’re constantly learning about the world through the act of creation.

- Experience in media and media streaming protocols
- Experience with web3 infrastructure and frameworks
- Experience scaling products from zero to one
- Experience with distributed systems design
- Experience and passion for music, and/or as a creative
