Central European University is delighted to invite applications for the Gerd Bucerius History Scholarship (Master of Arts in Historical Studies).
ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS has generously partnered with Central European University to fund joint scholarships offered to high-achieving students who wish to pursue a one-year or two-year master’s degree in Historical Studies at CEU, Vienna.
The Scholarships include:
- A 100% tuition-waiver
- A monthly stipend for accommodation and cost of living
- A one-off research allowance of EUR 1000
- Health insurance
Both the one-year and the two-year MAs in Historical Studies have a substantial research component, including a thesis project that allows students to pursue their own research in close collaboration with leading historians in their fields.
As an international faculty and student body we strive to think about the past across geographical regions, historical periods, and academic disciplines, from late antiquity to the present. In order to foster a spirit of critical inquiry, students also receive solid training in historical methods and theory.
The Gerd Bucerius History Scholarship provides full funding for the one-year MA in Historical Studies and the two-year MA in Historical Studies. For more information on what these programs offer, see CEU Master of Arts Degree Programs in Historical Studies.

All students applying for financial aid in the one-year and two-year MAs in Historical Studies will be eligible for this scholarship. The deadline for applications with financial aid is February 1, 2024 at 23:59 CET. If you are interested in the Gerd Bucerius History Scholarship, you should indicate this in the Statement of Purpose that you will be asked to submit as part of your application.
