GYMNASTICS COACH

(Permanent, Part-Time 0.6)

The West Vancouver Community Services Department has an opening for a permanent, part-time Gymnastic Coach to join our team. We are seeking a coach who shows professionalism, loves to work with children, can communicate easily with families and is a highly motivated team player. Reporting to the Gymnastics Program Coordinator, the Gymnastics Coach is responsible for coaching preschool, school age gymnastics, youth and adult drop-ins, gymnastics holiday camps and birthday parties. The Gymnastics Coach will teach the fundamentals of gymnastics to children and provide each child with the technical opportunity to develop to their maximum potential. Examples of work include:

  • Setting up and taking down circuits and needed gym equipment;
  • taking attendance and ensuring that classes run on time;
  • distributing assigned literature;
  • evaluating and mentoring CIT’s and Junior Coaches;
  • creating lesson plans and completing report cards;
  • occasional light maintenance and cleaning of gymnastics centre;
  • performing other related duties as required.

The preferred candidate will possess: knowledge of gymnastics programs and activities; the ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with all ages; the ability to enforce guidelines for safety in the gym; strong leadership skills, the ability to communicate to other gymnastics staff in emergency situations and be able to lead creative and fun games in a gym.

Desirable qualifications include: a minimum certification of Level 1 Gymnastics and Level 1 Trampoline or certified in Gymnastics Foundations Part 1, 2 & 3 (artistic, trampoline and active start); completion of Respect in Sport and Making Ethical Decisions; current First Aid and CPR; and some experience working with children, youth and the public.

The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector and a copy of their credentials.

Starting Rate of Pay:
$16.75 – 35.70 per hour.
Wages are based on certifications and experience.
