Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have minimum two (2) years experience living and working in a university residence setting, either in a similar position, or as a Senior Residence Don/Lead Don

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in counseling, programming, and discipline within an undergraduate residence community
  • The candidates should possess word-processing skills and experience within a PC environment
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • The candidates should have proven leadership, supervisory, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should have demonstrated conflict resolution skills
  • The candidates should feel comfortable working in an unpredictable environment both independently and as part of a team of diverse individuals
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to exercise creativity in developing and improving programs, policies, and staff development
  • The candidates should have an interest in students who come from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • The candidates should be effective communicator and be adept problem solvers
  • The candidates should demonstrate responsibility in their work and be team player

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Associate Dean, Residence Life and the Assistant Dean, Residence Life
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and monitor student life in Chestnut Residence in accordance with the mission and policies of the residence and the University of Toronto
  • The candidates should be able to assist the Associate Dean, Residence Life and Assistant Dean, Residence Life in developing and sustaining a supportive, inclusive, and accepting living community for all students in the Chestnut Residence
  • The candidates should be able to work closely together and with the Dean of Residence & Director of Student Life, Associate Dean, Residence Life, and the Assistant Dean, Residence Life (ADRL) to select, train, and supervise the Residence Dons throughout the academic and summer terms
  • The candidates should be able to promote community development and the academic success and personal growth of individual residents through program implementation, policy development, residential governance, and advising and daily involvement with students
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with the Residence Office to facilitate the operational and maintenance systems necessary to implement these programs
  • The candidates should be able to implement plans and process improvements for program and service activities
  • The candidates should be able to advise students on the interpretation of rules and regulations regarding the use of space and organizing events on campus
  • The candidates should be able to determine logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • The candidates should be able to provide formal job-related training
  • The candidates should be able to train and coach student life staff and student leaders
  • The candidates should be able to direct the activities of casual staff
  • The candidates should be able to coach residence student staff on handling personal and non-personal complaints
