The City of Campbell River is seeking a Horticulturist II to join our Parks Team.

The role: The Horticulturist II performs a wide variety of skilled horticulture tasks in the maintenance and operation of the City’s gardens, boulevards, green spaces, and trees. In addition, the incumbent will assist in developing and implementing planting plans and designs for landscaped areas; provide assistance to the Arborist II for tree maintenance and care; monitor and control plant pests utilizing integrated pest management techniques; and provide direction to other horticulture staff as required.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Landscape Horticulturist Level 4 (successful completion of the BC industry Training Authority’s Landscape Horticulturist Apprenticeship common core level I to IV exams) or equivalent.
  • 3 years practical, progressive horticulture experience in a related setting, including the design, development, construction, and maintenance of landscaped areas.
  • 3 years’ experience in the ability to plant, transplant, fertilize, irrigate, cultivate, mulch, weed, prune trees, shrubs, plants and maintenance.
  • 3 years practical experience in the construction and maintenance of landscaped areas such as parks, boulevards, walkways, and sports fields.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience overseeing the work of others.
  • Current Pesticide Applicator Certificate (Landscape – Integrated Pest Management).
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license, and produce and maintain a clean driver’s abstract, as per City policy.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1

 
The rate of pay for this permanent, full-time CUPE bargaining unit position is $33.82 per hour based on a 40-hour work and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
