Human Resources Advisor
This position is being advertised internally and externally concurrently.
The Coquitlam School District invites applications for the position of Human Resources Advisor. As the third largest school district in the province, we are located within a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 32,000 students with approximately 4,300 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff. The Human Resources Advisor’s work with various partners and supports the district’s HR Leads of OH&S and Health and Wellness, Labour Relations, and Staffing. There are currently two vacancies for this position and assignment of portfolios is fluid and subject to change (as determined by the Executive Director of Human Resources or designate).
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
Health and Wellness
- assisting with the management of disability claims including the facilitation of stay at work/return to work programs and implementation of temporary and permanent accommodations;
- assisting with the management of the Attendance Promotion and Support Program;
- tracking and analyzing metrics relating to employee attendance and disability, to help identify areas of opportunity and possible solutions; and,
- assisting in the development and implementation of wellness initiatives, ergonomic assessments, risk assessments and action plans
Labour Relations
- assisting in investigating and resolving complex and confidential employee issues related to Labour Relations cases including research and the preparation of case files and correspondence, and training manuals;
- remaining current on labour relations trends and development in legislation and provides advice and support to ensure compliance with Collective Agreement and operational needs; and,
- monitoring refusal rates amongst TTOCs and casual CUPE staff, and recommending appropriate action where necessary.
Staffing/Resourcing
- supporting the full cycle of recruitment including collecting and assessing applications, interviewing, conducting reference checks and other employment validation
- monitoring casual pool levels and assisting with recruitment initiatives
- supporting and ensuring compliance with CRC requirements (new hires and five-year renewals)
Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have completed a two-year diploma program in Human Resources Management from an accredited institution, or an appropriate combination of training and experience. In addition, the successful candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of directly related work experience, preferably in a complex unionized environment with a consistent track record of exhibiting leadership skills through initiative, innovation and performing over and above the call of duty.
Additionally, the desired candidate will have:
- demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to develop working relationships;
- a proven record of strong organizational skills including an ability to establish priorities;
- confidence in working in Excel and HRIS systems;
- CPHR certificate an asset; and,
- a valid BC Driver’s license.
The annual salary range for this position is $77,625 – $97,031 and is complemented with a generous benefits package. The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete two criminal record checks.
