FACULTY OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE
DEPARTMENT OF FOOD PRODUCTION
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in Agricultural Statistics, Biometrics, Biostatistics or a closely related field.
Candidates should also possess:
- Teaching experience at a recognized tertiary institution/university
- Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in teaching courses related to Introductory level Mathematics, Biometrics and Applied Statistics in agricultural and environmental disciplines
- Proficiency in at least three (3) of the following:
- Design of Experiments
- Design of Surveys
- Research methodology
- Quantitative and qualitative research data
- Statistical Analysis of experimental data and employing suitable statistical software/tools
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- BSc in Agriculture/Biology or any relevant fields
- Demonstrated experience in providing statistical guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as Faculty in Experimental Design, Survey Design Data Analysis for crop, soil, livestock, food, life and environmental science disciplines
- Demonstrated experience in successful supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Demonstrated experience in statistical review of research proposals and scientific papers prepared for publication
- Knowledge and experience in the use of Classical and Geostatistical Software including R, SQL and Python
- Competency in on-line teaching and development of training materials for on-line learning of Mathematics and Statistics by Agriculture students
- Expertise in the use of statistical software to students and staff both in person and on-line settings
The following would be considered assets:
- Advanced level training in statistical computer languages (R, Python) to analyse, interpret data and draw insights
- Certificate in university teaching and learning
- Experience in revision of existing curriculum or development of new curriculum to keep abreast of development and innovation in the area of expertise
- Good track record of developing thematic research programmes and history of attracting external research funding
- Proficiency in communicating with research students on statistical methods and interpretation of experimental results
