Job Description


Faculty of Medical Sciences

Qualifications and Experience 

The successful candidate must possess a Doctor of Medicine (DM), which should be in Paediatrics or a closely related field. 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Ideally, at least four (4) years clinical experience (after MBBS)
  • A track record of skills acquired in the following areas:
  • Clinical decision making and communication
  • Clinical audit and research 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Degree or Certificate in Medical Education
  • Ideally, postgraduate teaching experience for at least two (2) years
  • Successful award of grant as a Principal Investigator (PI) or member of a team
  • Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer reviewed journals
  • Ideally, clinical experience at consultant level for at least two (2) years

The following would be considered assets:

  • Subspecialty training in Paediatrics
  • Providing Subspecialty service in Paediatrics 

Candidates must be registered or be able to register as a specialist in Paediatrics with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago. 

Special Responsibilities 

  • Providing work-based clinical supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Supervising postgraduate research projects
  • Teaching of Child Health for the MBBS degree and the DM Paediatrics programmes via online and face to face modes
  • Managing a Clinical Service
  • Mentoring students

  • Uphold the highest standards of professional practice and behaviour and medical ethics
  • Have a strong interest in mentoring staff
  • Be able to use online pedagogical platforms such as Zoom
  • Be able to use teaching aids such as power-point presentations
  • Be able to function as a team leader
