JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) at Penn State is seeking an Outreach and Marketing Specialist to generate fresh and engaging content that is consistent with the ICDS mission and values, the ICDS brand, and supports the success of the ICDS communications, engagement, marketing, and outreach strategies. This content will be in various formats, including articles, marketing and outreach materials, funding proposal language, news releases, content for digital media such as websites, social media and other digital media.

The Outreach and Marketing Specialist position has the potential to be performed fully remote or as a hybrid of remote and on-site work.

This position reports to the Director of Partnerships and Technology-based Research Projects.

As the Outreach and Marketing Specialist, some of your responsibilities include:

  • ICDS Advocacy and Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Promotion through content development for multiple channels, including marketing and outreach campaigns, to promote ICDS, the various initiatives supported by ICDS, and more broadly, the interdisciplinary research enabled by ICDS.

  • Acting as ICDS Social media specialist/communicator.

  • Writing content for publication in various venues including news publications, online or physical media publications, and scientific reporting publications.

  • Partner on specific conversion community relationship management.

Typical Education and Experience Requirements: This position will be filled at a Level 1 or 2, based on the successful candidate’s qualifications:

  • At a Level 1, this position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related area.

  • At a Level 2, this position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher and 2+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful candidate will possess relevant experience and a portfolio of work. The individual will be a strong writer with good interviewing skills and an ability to translate those interviews into engaging content. They will be a good communicator and collaborator.
