The following full-time, permanent post is to be filled at the weissensee school of art and design berlin at the earliest possible date but no earlier than 1st October 2025:

Professor in the Department of Fashion Design (M/F/D/X) with a focus on: artistic-conceptual design – basic principles of fashion design

Salary group W2 – Teaching load: 18 contact hours per week per semester

The weissensee school of art and design, whose work is cross-disciplinary and internationally oriented, combines a variety of disciplines in fine art and design on a single campus. The Department of Fashion Design is one of four design departments and has three professorships.

We are looking for a person with an outstanding profile for this vacant professorship. You will be able to teach fundamental design and display techniques with regard to artistic-conceptual aspects of clothing and the human body.

Your teaching should be appropriate to the special nature of a fashion design course of study at an art and design university. With excellent specialist qualifications in the field of fashion design, you should initiate and support innovative processes in design projects.The post forms an important link between the foundation studies in art and design and the existing project-based studies in the main part of this art and design course. The content of your teaching should be characterised by a highly contemporary knowledge of fashion. Moreover it should demonstrate a thoughtful stance on societal and media-related changes and deal with contemporary and sustainable developments.

Responsibilities

  • To teach semester projects on the foundation course, and fashion design in the second year of the course
  • To supervise bachelor and master’s theses
  • To teach a contemporary artistic and creative concept of fashion design
  • To impart specialist knowledge and methods in product development and the design of collections
  • To support the students in realising their personal potential and in shaping a varied programme of study that leads to the successful completion of their course
  • To be continuously present at the university
  • To participate actively in the organisation of the department and the further development of course content
  • To work actively in bodies concerned with academic self-administration and to organise courses of study in accordance with requirements

Requirements

  • A university degree in fashion design or in a closely related subject
  • Outstanding artistic-creative and subject-specialist qualifications
  • Several years’ experience as a fashion designer with extensive work on designing collections for a renowned fashion label, fashion-design house or as an independent designer
  • Professional product development of a wide variety of clothing types as well as experience of managing the process of implementation
  • Openness towards and an understanding of a wide variety of design styles, a contemporary outlook on fashion and an awareness of current societal trends and developments
  • Experience of working conceptually and in ways that are project-related and cross-disciplinary
  • Pedagogical suitability, evidenced by corresponding teaching experience at a fashion design university
  • The language of tuition is German. A good knowledge of English is desirable.
  • The post requires a high degree of resilience as well as highly developed skills in communication and conflict management.
