Job Description


The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice. 

We are looking for a Research Fellow to work on major new research project funded by NIHR Public Health Research. It is led by researchers at LSHTM’s Department of Public Health, Environments and Society in collaboration with colleagues at other universities in England. The project is a national mixed methods evaluation of an intervention intended to improve private rented sector housing in England (Selective Licensing).

We are looking for a Research Fellow to conduct qualitative fieldwork, analysis, write-up and engagement with multiple stakeholders. Skills we are looking for include: (i) Relevant experience in qualitative public health research relating to housing, place or other upstream determinants of health equity; (ii)  Evidence of excellent skills in qualitative research data collection; (iii) Excellent skills in qualitative research data analysis; and (iv) Evidence of engagement or involvement with public and practitioners (e.g. local government / public health practitioners).  Further particulars are included in the job description.

The post is full time 35 hours per week, 1 FTE and fixed-term until 31 January 2026. The post is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and is available from 1 December 2023.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 6 in the range £43,947 – £49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
