The Community:
Foothills County, nestled in a beautiful Mountainview setting, is a vibrant rural municipality with a thriving economy. They are located immediately south of Calgary, bordering the southern city limits. The community offers a selection of gracious family living options with proximity to urban amenities, world class golf courses, rafting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, camping, skiing, equestrian activity and more await you in this ideal location. Administrative Offices for the county are situated in High River, Alberta. The County surrounds the Towns of Okotoks, High River, Nanton, Turner Valley, Black Diamond, Claresholm, Pincher Creek, Stavley, Vulcan, Fort Macleod, Longview, and the Eden Valley Indian Reserve, Rural and hamlet residents, all in a 3,675 sq. KM area. This Alberta agricultural leader also boasts ten (10) high load corridors passing through the County supporting the transportation sector. They are host to a population of 24,645 who serve the agriculture, construction, retail, and energy industries.
 
Position Summary:
Due to significant growth opportunities the County is adding a Safety Codes Officer to facilitate development throughout the County and provide strength to the administration of existing, current, and future developments. The successful candidate will be integral to all aspects of the safety code permit cycle. Duties will include assisting the public and contractors with submissions of complete safety code permit applications, building plan exam reviews, issuing permits, inspecting buildings, and closing permits upon completion.

You will be part of a team responsible to apply and enforce National Building Codes- Alberta Edition in alignment with the Foothills County Quality Management Plan, (QMP). Extensive reporting and the ability to collaborate and consult with health, fire, plumbing, electrical, gas and other inspection authorities will be required. It will be imperative to Liaise cooperatively with all County departments to increase effective communications and expedite resolutions to concerns. A professional and ethical person will thrive in this position.

Requirements:
Applicants should have obtained or be working towards obtaining Part 9 and Part 3 of the Building Code, including HVAC Residential or HVAC all, and possess a Valid class 5 drivers’ licence with a good driving record.

Oral and written communications skills are a must. The successful candidate will possess superior people skills and the ability to work independently, exercising good judgement and sound decision making. A high degree of accuracy and diligence are critical requirements for this position.
 
Other Qualifications:
Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word & Excel) and the ability to read & understand building plans. Is necessary.
