Job Description


We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Scientific Leader to join our team in Frankfurt am Main from 01.02.2025 for a 3-year period. The position is ideal for an individual with a strong background in scientific research and leadership in the field of mental health.

EAAD is an international non-profit organization in Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main, Germany. We work with our global network of more than 30 partners from 27 countries from Europe and beyond, to improve the care for patients with depressive disorders and to prevent suicidal behaviour. EAAD drives research, currently leading these EU-funded research projects:

  • MENTBEST – 14 partners from 11 countries – aiming to support mental health via community-based interventions with a focus on vulnerable people and stressors related to rapid changing societies. Also, using individualized AI-enabled analyses, the possible benefits of long-term biosensor and smartphone based self-monitoring are being studied with a large randomized controlled study.
  • MentBox – 5 partners from 4 countries – aiming to identifying and adapt effective mental health interventions targeting depression, suicide, and non-clinical distress for vulnerable populations. The Modular Mental Health Toolbox, will guide EU Member States in implementing these interventions.
  • MESUR – 7 partners from 6 countries – aiming to distribute the iFightDepression® tool to Ukrainian displaced persons. This internet-based self-management programme is for individuals experiencing milder forms of depression.
  • EAAD-Grow – a project funded by an EU operational grant, aiming to increase EAAD’s visibility towards stakeholders and potential partners, but also in becoming a first address for people with depression and their relatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and further development of a mental health scientific research group
  • Leadership in grant applications, project implementation, evaluation, and publication of large-scale scientific research projects related to depression and suicide prevention

What skills and experience are required?

  • A PhD, ideally in Psychiatry, Global Mental Health, Public Health, or Psychology
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in grant application, implementation, evaluation and publication of large scientific research projects in the field of mental health
  • Strong record of publications in leading peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience with EU-funded or international research projects would be advantageous
  • Interest in pursuing further academic qualifications (e.g. habilitation)
  • Excellent command of the English language; proficiency in German is an advantage.
