Senior Buyer, Woodbridge, Ontario (on-site)
The Senior Buyer, is responsible for sourcing and procurement of goods. Purchases raw materials, equipment, tools, parts and supplies for a group of products/functions. Develops supply sources by interviewing potential suppliers, visiting current vendors to improve relations and assessing supply facilities and negotiating price. Ensures that the minimum level of inventory for the allocated commodities are maintained without jeopardizing the continuity of scheduled production within the customer release schedules. Participates as a strategic liaison with the relevant suppliers to ensure raw material requirements are satisfied
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Purchasing and negotiating supplier contracts for production items as per programs and commodities assigned (including market-testing)
- Communicating with suppliers (written and verbal) on a daily basis to achieve organizational objectives.
- Route internal requisitions for approval, create and distribute purchase orders for items that exceed $10K
- Flexibility to manage after hours conference calls / travel to offsite supplier locations as needed.
- Issuing of all applicable Purchase Orders and Amendments
- Responsible for minimizing and verifying all supplier obsolescence claims with supporting documentation.
- Responsible for monitoring and acquiring cost savings & productivity participation rebates from production suppliers.
- Responsible for issuing all Supplier debit and credit notes as required.
- Contributes to Departmental Continual Improvement at all times, both in general and specifically related to departmental goals and activity.
- Attends APQP meetings and executes all purchasing responsibilities along with keeping program tracking charts up to date
- Works with quality team to process QPF claims back to suppliers
- Research potential suppliers to develop global souring opportunities
- Maintains responsibility for departmental Continuous Improvement at all times, both in general and specifically related to individual duties
- Follows all applicable Company’s BOS procedures
- Performs all job functions abiding by the office/work standards, policies and procedures as outlines in the company handbook.
- Performs all job functions in alignment with IATF 16949 quality management standards and ISO 14001
- Actively participates in continuous improvement
- Maintain 5S standards in working environment
- Attend training based on company’s internal training matrix
- Performs all job functions in a safe, healthful and environmentally conscious manner, abiding by all health, safety and environment rules and regulations as outlined in the company handbook
- Performs other duties as assigned or any reasonable request by management.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education or equivalent
- Possess or be actively working toward Advanced status in “Professional Program” of SCMA/SCMAO or similar would be an asset.
- A valid G driver’s license
- Ability to navigate ERP software (Preferably T4M, SAP)
- Understanding of basic accounting principles
- Minimum 5 years purchasing experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in automotive.
- Hands-on understanding of manufacturing processes for commodity being purchased.
- Previous experience in capital procurement
- Ability to review and comprehend supplier financial statements.
- Effective computerized business applications skills
- Good English communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Good interpersonal and effective organizational skills
- Capable of working with minimal supervision
- Ability to work under tight timelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PMAC / CPP certification
- Automotive background
- Experience in scheduling and inventory control, reviewing and understanding of engineering drawings and specs.
- Knowledge of QS-9000, ISO-14001 and TS/IATF-16949 standards
- Technical background in quality, process, engineering, program management
- Automotive manufacturing experience
