Job Description

About the role

Are you an organized, resourceful and accomplished administrator who also has strong communications skills and experience? The School of Security Studies, King’s College London, is looking for a Senior Communications Officer with this broad skillset to support the School’s innovative Freeman Air and Space Institute (FASI) and work with its friendly team to deliver its strategy and its day-to-day activities.

The successful applicant will help FASI build on its success over the last four years since its establishment as the first dedicated academic institute for air and space power in the UK. Specifically, you will support the Co-Directors and Research Staff in the Institute, including arranging meetings and producing agendas and minutes in a timely fashion; creating monthly reports to track progress; liaising with stakeholders, including acting as a first point of contact for all enquiries; and engaging with the Institute’s Advisory Board and funders.

Alongside these operational duties, the role will draw on and develop your creative communication and event organisation skills. You will be responsible for managing the publication of Freeman Institute Papers, copywriting for the website, crafting social media posts for FASI’s X and LinkedIn feeds, and producing bi-monthly newsletters.

You will be responsible for coordinating a range of online and in-person events including fireside chats, online webinars, workshops and larger hybrid conferences and lectures including the annual Chief of the Air Staff Lecture.

Operational responsibilities will include financial and HR administration, management of a risk register, budget management and invoicing, and other tasks vital to the delivery of contractual deliverables. This post will involve working with the School’s Contract Delivery Manager, Business Manager and Communications Manager to ensure wider resilience and coordination of FASI activities with those of the School of Security Studies and King’s College London. This post will report to the School Contract Delivery Manager.

The job would suit someone with excellent organisational skills and with careful attention to detail, who has a desire to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers, students, communications professionals and partners from industry and government. It offers an excellent opportunity to broaden your skills within a supportive environment. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to use their initiative and work independently, but must also display excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with the wide range of stakeholders involved in FASI.

The School of Security Studies is located within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. Together, we support an inclusive culture and diversity for our staff and students. We are committed to encouraging further growth from diverse groups, and we welcome applications from people of all abilities and currently under-represented groups, which we are able to support with our range of flexible and inclusive benefits. We currently have underrepresentation from BAME, disabilities and LGBTQ communities. As such, we particularly welcome applicants from these groups.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31/03/2026.

Closing date: 28.7.24
