Position Summary
The Senior Designer/Creative Lead
is responsible for shaping and maintaining a cohesive visual identity and the creative direction for Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute
of Religion. A talented designer and creative director comfortable across formats, the Senior Designer will bring their passion and skills
to sustaining HUC-JIR’s mission and elevating its presence through relevant, timely, and engaging visuals. As the creative leader
within the College-Institute, the role develops and advocates for a strong unified visual presence, exhibits excellent management and
interpersonal skills, and effectively prioritizes and communicates assignments to ensure the team’s success. The successful candidate
will be equal parts brand leader and hands-on designer. The position will work from HUC-JIR’s New York office 2-3 days a week and remotely
on Fridays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are
not limited to the following:
- Lead and maintain brand strategy and positioning to elevate HUC-JIR’s visibility and
reputation. - Produce and direct all visual content for print, digital, and other mediums, including managing production for design,
photography, video, and digital, and sourcing and overseeing other professionals where necessary to build multi-platform communication
strategies that continue to strengthen HUC-JIR’s internal and external communications. - Provide creative design,
direction, strategy, brand building and project supervision in developing multi-tiered marketing campaigns, for both prospective and current
students, current and prospective donors. - Collaborate with web team to create and manage content (text, photo, and video) that
celebrates HUC-JIR’s impact and highlights the unique advantages of our community. - Create print and digital materials for
various stakeholders across the College-Institute (e.g., HUC Connect, recruitment and fundraising campaigns and events, special offerings
from the libraries and museums, student and faculty activities), including, but not limited to posters, invitations, exhibition and event
materials, presentations, websites, email templates, social media campaigns, and motion graphics. - Ensure all creative is in
alignment with brand strategies and guidelines. - Effectively communicate design concepts to supervisors and colleagues.
- Prepare files and print specifications for vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Design,
Graphic Design, Visual Communications or related degree.
Experience
- Required: Minimum of 8-10 years of
creative design experience, including experience leading a team. - Previous art direction experience required
- Professional experience leading a creative team at a non-profit, education, cultural organization highly preferred.
- Presentation of a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual design skills and ability to inspire and lead a design team

- Fully proficient in standard design tools include Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.), Microsoft Office Suite

excellent understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and user-centered design principles - Strong project
management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven
environment - Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior management, stakeholders,
other departments, etc. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A passion for education, creativity,
and innovation, with a keen eye for detail - Knowledge of American Jewish history and community, or desire to learn
- Broad understanding of issues and policies in higher education
- High level of confidentiality

decision-making skills
