The rate:  £19.47 per hour (7 hours per day)

The Textiles Yarn resource team is looking for support for the role of Technical Instructor in Textiles Yarn Resource This will be a casual worker contract from February 2024.The Purpose of the post and relevant skills are listed below.

Purpose of the post:

Providing technical assistance, guidance and instruction to a wide range of students within the Yarn Resource. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical instruction, support and advice on yarns and fibres. Winding of yarns requested by students.

  • Charging for the yarns using iZettle.

  • Ongoing learning through making and skills sharing as part of a dynamic team.

  • Maintaining specialist equipment and safety and keeping accurate records. 

  • Supporting College Teaching, Learning and Research activities that may require Textiles and yarn knowledge and skills as appropriate.

  • Comply with all Royal College of Art policies and procedures.

  • Monitor and maintain a safe working environment following H&S policies and procedures employed for managing Health and Safety.

  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the role as required and in agreement with the Specialist Technical Instructor and Technical Services Coordinator for Fashion and Textiles.

Personal Specification:

  • Significant, highly skilled, specialist knowledge and experience with a variety of processes for working with Textiles and Fashion
  • Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety best practices within a workshop environment, including an understanding of Risk Assessment procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use initiative and work as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational, time management, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent user focus and a flexible approach
  • Experience in creating online learning materials and using online booking systems such as Moodle.
