Trades Gardener 

(Parks Department)
(CUPE Full-time, Regular)

 

The City of Pitt Meadows is recruiting a Trades Gardener to perform horticultural work primarily at our Rose Grabenhorst Garden and various other parks in Pitt Meadows. Reporting to the Manager of Parks, this position provides various levels of horticultural support including planting, fertilizing, propagating, pruning and general maintenance of a variety of vegetation. They will also assist with snow and ice removal, preventative de-icing duties, and integrated pest management techniques. They will also have the opportunity to chat with the public and answer a variety of horticultural questions. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm. Depending on operational needs, there may also be opportunities for scheduled overtime.

 
Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work, plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Certificate and experience in Landscape Construction is preferred.
  • Pesticide Application Licence.
  • Considerable knowledge of the names and species of a wide variety of plants, shrubs, tree, and flowers and their growing requirements.
  • Considerable experience with standard practices and equipment used in landscaping and gardening.
  • Experience with preparing and applying various fertilizers.
  • Ability to assign, schedule, coordinate and director operations and daily gardening/landscaping tasks.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
